ESPOO, Finland (April 9th, 2026) – Nordic Bioproducts Group has been recognized with two major industry acknowledgements in 2026, highlighting its innovation in sustainable microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) production across both nutraceutical and cosmetics markets.

The company has been named a finalist in the Sustainability Category at the Vitafoods Europe 2026 Innovation Awards, recognizing its patented AaltoCell® technology for MCC production. In parallel, Nordic Bioproducts Group has been shortlisted for the Rising Star Award at in-cosmetics Global 2026.

Both recognitions highlight the company’s breakthrough approach to producing MCC, a widely used functional ingredient in tablets, capsules, and cosmetic formulations. Rather than introducing a new ingredient, Nordic Bioproducts Group has fundamentally rethought how MCC is made.

At its production facility in Lappeenranta, Finland, the AaltoCell® process delivers up to 81% lower carbon emissions compared to conventional methods, supported by a third-party Life Cycle Assessment. The continuous production technology also significantly reduces resource consumption, requiring up to 95% less water and 90% less energy, while being powered by renewable electricity.

In the nutraceutical sector, PURA SeriesTM Super Flow MCC plays a key role in capsule and tablet performance. In cosmetics, PURA SeriesTM Nordic Beauty MCC offers versatile functionality across skincare, haircare, and colour cosmetics, enabling formulators to achieve multiple performance benefits with a single, sustainable ingredient.

“These recognitions reflect our mission to bring high-performance, sustainable materials to global industries,” says Kalle Riihinen, COO of Nordic Bioproducts Group. “By rethinking production at its core, we can deliver meaningful environmental impact at scale without compromising functionality.”

The awards will be presented during Vitafoods Europe 2026 and in-cosmetics Global 2026.
